The 3 Main Phases of Clinical Studies
All medications must be tested before doctors can prescribe them to patients. This testing happens in clinical studies, also called clinical trials, where patients who take part help improve healthcare. The clinical study process happens in 3 main phases:
- Phase 1 studies include a small number of patients. They test the safety of the drug and determine the correct dosage.
- Phase 2 studies include a larger number of patients. They test if the drug is effective and they check safety again.
- Phase 3 studies are large. They confirm the safety and effectiveness of the drug.
The Connection Study is a large Phase 3 study.
